§ 62-33. Placement of utilities on new streets.

  • Any person desiring to install a utility within a public way shall submit design drawings and specifications to the county for review and approval. At a minimum, the following guidelines apply to all installations permitted under this article:

    (1)

    Any installations for water utilities shall be located four feet from the edge of pavement (back of curb) and shall have 48 inches of cover. Waterlines shall only be located on either the south or west side of a road.

    (2)

    Any person desiring to install any sanitary sewer utilities shall submit design drawings and specifications to the county water and sewer department for review and approval.

    (3)

    Any installations of telephone service utilities shall be located seven feet from the edge of pavement (curb and gutter) and shall have 24 inches of cover. Telephone utilities shall only be located on either side of a road.

    (4)

    Any installations of cable television utilities shall be located one foot from edge of pavement (curb and gutter) and shall have 24 inches of cover. Cable utilities may be located on either side of a road.

    (5)

    Any installations of natural gas utilities shall be located three feet from the edge of pavement (curb and gutter) and shall have 36 inches of cover. Natural gas utilities shall only be located on either the north or east side of a road.

    (6)

    Any installations of underground power utilities shall be nine feet from the edge of payment (curb and gutter) and shall have 42 inches of cover. Power utilities may be located on either side of a road.

    (7)

    When possible, any utility crossing a county public way shall be done by boring under the road. Should it become necessary to ditch across a county public way, repair to the damaged public way must be completed and the public way must be restored to the same or better condition than that which existed prior to the commencement of any utility installation.
